In October 1996, large numbers of Buddhism images were discovered at Longxing Temple site in Qingzhou, Shandong, with a great variety, exquisite carving and magnificent colored drawings. Therefore, upon the unearthing, they caused a sensation, attracted wide attention of domestic and overseas news media and arouse high interest of the academy, religion, art and all sectors of society. They were later awarded one of the ten archaeological discoveries in 1996 and one of the 100 significant archaeological discoveries in the 20th century.
